In the summer of 2021, NYCxDESIGN and Arts Thread teamed up to present a 3-month Emerging Designer Residency Program at Hudson Yards. Four recent graduates had 13 weeks to work on their impressive portfolios and showcase projects in a highly visible space.
In addition to providing exposure for the emerging designers to launch their businesses, the space offered an opportunity for the public to see a behind-the-scenes look at the design process–from the making of rugs to the fabrication of pendant lights.
The residency took place at the Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards, Level 4.

“I wouldn't have continued working on my agar pendant lamp collection if it wasn’t for the residency opportunity with NYCxDESIGN and ARTS THREAD. The experience allowed me to work on my portfolio while interacting with the public, which generated new ideas and inspiration for my work.” - Yi Hsuan Sung
